Non Fiction
This book is about a child named David that was having a perfectly good life up until his mom started getting really drunk and his dad worked later. The mom always took all of her anger out on David even though she has two other boys. She hates David so much that she doesn't even call him by his name, she calls him The Boy. Every day David has to do all of the chores his mom tells him to do and most of the time he doesn't get food and if he does its the crumbs from the rest of the family. The mom finds many ways to torture David but David still holds his ground. She almost kills him many times but he always finds a way out. He has to deal with her every day until one day at school the police take him to an orphanage a arrest his mom for severe child abuse. This story is true and was one of the worst cases of child abuse in California.
I thought this book was amazing but also sad. I thought that is was very interesting and always made me want to keep reading. Its also sad though because of what she does to him. I just wonder how a person could be so cruel.

I heard this was a great book and I'm planning on reading it for my non-fiction next quarter. I also really want to read the other two in the series. I'm not sure though.......is it really as sad as it sounds?
