Just Listen

Author: Sarah Dessen
Reading Level: 4.9
Points: 15.0
Genre: Fiction

Just Listen is one of the very best books that I have ever read! It is about a young girl named Annabel telling her story about the terrible summer she had before her senior year in high school. She is fighting with her friend(who wont talk to her anymore). Now she has nobody to talk to until she meets Owen Armstrong, whom everyone is afraid of. Owen and she developed a strong relationship and things start to go back to the way it used to be, until.....

Just Listen is a magnifecent book! I suggest it to all the girls who are going through tough times right now. This book will tell you that you are not alone, and in order to be successful you have to face challenges. It teaches you a very valuable lesson.

Island of the Blue Dolphins is a brilliant book. It is a very sad book most times and it really makes you feel for the characters. Even though there is only one person through the bulk of the book it still has a lot of adventure and excitement. I would recommend this book to any one.

This book is about this wyvern(weird dragon thing) goes through a time warp and his master has to go in and find it. Also there is a girl named Theadore who is obsessed with wyverns but everyone thinks there extinct. The masters wyvern ends up being pregnant but gets seperated from its baby and Theadore finds it. Also there is a bad guy who wants to capture both wyverns for his own use, and rule the world. The rest of the book is about a whole adventure on trying to find the wyverns first and getting them in the right hands.

I thought this book was ok. I thought it had an exciting ending though. I don't recomend reading this book unless you like fantasies with dragons and stuff.

Maximum Ride, The Final Warning is part of a continual series called Maximum Ride. This so far, has been the latest in James Patterson's series for teens and revolves around Max. If you did not know this Dr. Seuss went to war!!! You will see some pictures of this amazing man and his family. I think that this book was very interestin and i learned a lot of things i never knew. It turns out that Seuss got in trouble a lot. I never thought that a kids book writer whould be on the bad side, but he had fun in life. When seuss was a kid he used to got to the zoo and draw the animals he saw there. His versions where a little different though. Some of the animals he drew as a kid he later on he even used some of these wacky creations in some of his books.

I recomend this book to people looking for adventure. It might even give future writters a little spark of idea. If you read this book maybe someday you will be a famous writter someday that goes down in history. I really enoyed this book and ihope that you will as much as I did!

She was the most popular girl at school until a desease took over her body. This desease made her gain weight in a short amount of time. No matter how less she would eat and how much she would exercise, she would gain more and more weight. Her little perfect life started falling apart.
Her handsome boyfriend seemed not to be in love with her anymore so she had to do the hardest desicion in her life. Break up with him. Then, there was a family proble. She had to move to another state. Once there, there was a lot of bullying, even more than in her other school. But then she found some friends. She started losing her weight. Could it be that her perfect, normal life was falling back together? Find out by reading "Life in the fat lane".

When Bone and Squirrel become separated, Squirrel must fend for herself, and in the process, makes two friends who in very different ways define her fate. At one time, she thinks she sees her brother Bone, but it was just another stray dog. Do you want to know if she is ever reunited with her mom or brother again? Well find out for yourself and read this amazing and fun book! If you like dogs, then this is the book for you. :)

This was the best dog book I have ever read before. I have a ton of other dog books that I got for my birthday and still have to read, but so far, this is my facorite. I hope you read it because you will never want to put this book down and it will keep you on the edge of your seat!

A Child Called It

Title: A Child Called It
Author: David Peltzer
Points: 5.0
Level: 5.8

A Child Called It is a great but very sad non fiction book. So, if you are looking for a non fiction book to read, try this one! It is about this little boy who at the begining of the book is 6 years old and has 3 other brothers and a horrible mom. She beats him, puts him in a gas chamber, verbaly abuses him, hits him, kicks him, puts soap in his mouth and makes him swallow it, makes him stay up late and doesnt allow him to eat with the rest of the family, and absolutely discludes him from the familly. Now, he does have a dad and at first his dad would try to stick up for him, but his mother eventually takes over his dad and wont let the boy see his dad. If he ever does see his dad, leter on, his dad ignores him but doesn't beat up like his mom. There comes a time in his life where for about 2 days, his mom is odly kind to him and lets him eat with the family and play with his brothers and shows affection for him and Dave thinks everything will be okay. But, 2 days later, his mom gets right back to her old self again. For about 5 years Dave slept in a cot in the garage if he was lucky to have any blankets at all. When he is about 11, his dad leaves forever and his mom gets pregnant. Then he gets even less attention from the little that he has. It does not end like a happy ever lasting story, but it is a meraculous story about a little boy who is abused for many years and surprisingly lives through it all.

If you are looking for a non fiction book that is good, and eay to read, this is the book for you. It is a super easy test. Although it is a sad and a little depressing, it is definitly worth reading because it really will show you how lucky you are.

The Salamander Spell is about the two daughters of the Green Witch, she is also the Queen of her kingdom. Her name is Queen Olivene. During this book her daughters are learning about how to be proper princess of their kingdom. It is said though that the daughter that is born first will be the next Green Witch, and she will earn her magical powers. However, during the book the eldest daughter, Chartreuse, is supposed to earn her magic ability. Although she continues to struggle with her magic it turns out that her younger sister, Grassina, is the daughter that will earn her magic, not Chartreuse. Chartreuse gets very angry with her sister when she does not earn her magic. Along with all of this the family has to compete with another struggle, the family curse has been brought upon her mother, before she was her normal self, but now her whole personality has changed, before she was sweet and nice, but now she is mean and nasty.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes magic and mythical creatures. This book has to do with going through real life problems. With this book comes others but i would recommend that you read this book first, because other wise you will be very lost. The other books are called(and these are in order), The Frog Princess, Dragon's Breath, Once Upon a Curse, and No Place For Magic. I think you would be better off though if you read this book first though. I hope that anyone who decicdes to read these books really enjoys them! I know I did!

Memoirs of a Geisha: A Novel

Title of Book: Memoirs of a Geisha
Author: Golden, Arthur
Reading Level: 6.5
Points: 31
Genre: fiction

Memoirs of a Geisha is a really good book. It about a girl who’s mother gets sick. Her mother wasn’t going to make it and her father couldn’t take care of her and her sister. She was only a little girl. Her dad sells her and her sister and she and her sister get separated. She was chosen to become a geisha because she was beautiful and her sister was not a pretty so she was sold off somewhere else. She grows up to learn about forgetting the past and becoming a geisha. She never saw her sister again after they met once. They planned to run away but only her sister escaped. A geisha is a girl who must entertain men and she sells her virginity to the highest bidder. Memoirs of a Geisha takes you through the life from when she was little all the way to growing up. It takes place during WW2 and the Great Depression.

Memoirs of a Geisha was a very good book. It got confusing at times and it has a lot of history in it. I wouldn’t recommend it to guys it’s not much of a guy book. It gets a little graphical as well but it is very suspenseful. It was worth reading and I enjoyed it. Again I would not recommend it to guys it’s really not a kind of book you would enjoy as a guy. It’s a good book and it may be pretty long and some parts boring but it has a good ending. =]

Heartbeat is about a girl named Annie. Her mom is pregnant and her grandpa is losing his memory. Her grandpa had to move in with her family because his wife died and had nowhere to go. Her best friend, Max is always moody so he is no help. The only thing to relieve her stress is to run barefoot and hear her heart beating. When Annie has to go see her mother give birth during Max's big race he gets really mad at her. Annie has also kept a secret at this time, she loves to draw. Her art teacher assigned the class to draw the same apple one hundred times but when her grandpa takes a bite from the apple the picture ends up changing, just like her life. Always changing.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes quick and short books. Even though I prefer long books this book was really good. The book is really easy to comprehend and is like a long poem. The words really flow together. I actually recommend this for boys and girls because its just a regular 12 year old going through changes that we are going through right now.

Starry, Starry Night

~Title~Starry, starry night
Author:Lurlene McDaniel
R.L:4.2

Points:6.0

This book has three stories in one book. The first book is about a girl that's going to have a baby sister after 16 years of being an only child. She and her parents are very happy about it. They might think the baby might be born on christmas day since they're so close to the Holiday. Her mom's water finally broke before Christmas and they hurried to the Hospital. After the baby was born they found out she had something wrong with her brain and were told she wouldn't live for more than a few days. The day finally arrived that they had to let her go. They watched her stop breathing and were really sad. The second story is about a guy that was cursed with cancer. He liked a girl that often went to the Hospital with a friend to see a guy that worked there. The guy with cancer saw the girl and wanted to meet her. He had told a Doctor about her and the Doctor knew her. One day he called her into his office to talk about the guy with cancer. He told her it would make him really happy if she met him sometime. One day she was alone in the hall waiting for her friend and he comes up to her to talk and to meet her. He talks to her and asks her out. She didn't know what to say because she didn't really know him. Finally she said yes and the date with him was awsome but she only liked him as a friend. Days went by and she went to visit him. The "Ball" was the second biggest dance of the whole year. He asks her to it and she says sure. But then there's other guy that's like a girl's dream and he asks her to the dance too but after. She dreamly said "Yes" and didn't realize she had promised to go with the guy that has cancer. Now she must decide who to go with. And finally the last story is about a girl that's going out with the most popular guy at school. Because of that she's popular too. Her boyfriend wants to do things that she doesn't want to do. So now she's stuck with the thought of being unpopular or do what he wants her to do.

I recommend this book to all girls because guys wouldn't understand the real meaning of it. It's a sad romantic book about three girls that are going throught sad holidays. It's one of the books that once you start reading them you can't close the book again until the end of it. It's one of the best books I've ever read and might be my favorite.

The End is the kind of book where people die often in every book in the series. So, anyways the main characters in the beginning of the book are Violet, Klaus,Sunny, and
Count Olaf. It starts off as this, They're sailing into sea, with a small wooden boat, no clue of where they might end up, and then a storm happens to appear. I'm just going to let you figure what happened in this book.

I recomend this book to people who have read this series since book one. If you are intrested in the series please read them in order. The books are The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window, The Miserable Mill, The Austere Academy, The Eratz Elevator, The Vile Village, The Hostile Hospital, The Carnivorous Carnival, The Slippery Slope, The Grim Grotto, The Penultimate Peril, and then finally the book I am doing my blog about The End. I have read the whole series this school year and I still think they are great.

The Rainmaker is a book about a young lawyer named Rudy Baylor. He is struggling to find a job after graduating law school. After awhile his friend Bruiser gives him a job at his law firm and lets Rudy take time off to study for the bar exam. The mom always took all of her anger out on David even though she has two other boys. She hates David so much that she doesn't even call him by his name, she calls him The Boy. Every day David has to do all of the chores his mom tells him to do and most of the time he doesn't get food and if he does its the crumbs from the rest of the family. The mom finds many ways to torture David but David still holds his ground. She almost kills him many times but he always finds a way out. He has to deal with her every day until one day at school the police take him to an orphanage a arrest his mom for severe child abuse. This story is true and was one of the worst cases of child abuse in California.
I thought this book was amazing but also sad. I thought that is was very interesting and always made me want to keep reading. Its also sad though because of what she does to him. I just wonder how a person could be so cruel.
