Small Steps is a exciting and energetic book that is the sequel to the award winning book holes. Armpit the main character in the book and x-ray loves the hit singer Kaira DeLeon and is caught trying to by and sell tickets to her show to gain money, but found out that they are in trouble for doing this. Along the way armpit finds that Kaira and him are falling in love

I recommend this book to people seeking a book that is just like the book Holes and is a love story to all. This book is fun and has a little drama thrown in there. If you like music, drama, and love then this is the book for you.

The City of Ember

Reading level: 5.0

science fiction

The City of Ember is about Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow. In this book at the age of 12 everyone has to pick from a hat what job they will do for the rest of their life. Lina wants to be a messenger but instead picks one of the worts jobs pipeworks witch means she will be under ground all day. Then Doon picks messenger he is unhappy about this because he does not think it is very important. He believes that the great lights of Ember are soon coming to a end. What will happen to Ember if there is no more light? I think this is a wonderful book because it is very different then anything we have come to know. The author made it very easy to picture the setting. I completely agree with the voice of Youth Advocates who said it was "Science fiction for those who do not like science fiction." If you do not like slow moving books i would not recommend it other than that it was a fantastic book.

Title: Moonrise
Author: Erin Hunter
Book Level: 5.8
Points: 11
Genre: Fiction

Moonrise is the 8th cat adventure, 2nd of Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw of Thunderclan, Stromfur and Feathertail of Riverclan, Crowpaw of Windclan and Tawnypelt of Shadowclan. They are traveling back after receiving a message from Starclan (kind of like our heaven) from a badger named Midnight. They must travel back to their clans to give them the message. The challenge is that they meet a tribe in great danger. They must decide whether to help the tribe or their clans. Most of all they must survive the terrors of two-legs (humans) and the wild.

I recommend this book to people who love adventure and continuous action. This book allows you to learn not only about cats habits, but also the inside story of their thoughts, memories, and dreams. It also reveals the damage humans do to the earth and how it hurts animals. This story has everything from love, to the battle scenes, to the death of loved one to the birth and growth of new kits. Although it is part of a large series if you don’t like to read start with the first book and try this amazing series. I hated reading, so much I wouldn’t read unless forced to read, and still I would just pretend. Now once I start reading I have to struggle to put it down!

Bloomability is about a girl whose family moves a lot. They have been all over the country, and now her aunt and uncle are taking her to Switzerland for schooling. At this school, there are children from all over the world, with different languages, clothes, and customs. She makes many different friends, and at the end of the year, her aunt and uncle ask her if she wants to come back next year. She had trouble at first, but in the end, it was all okay.

I recommend this book to people who like excitement and adventure. Also, if you want to learn about other places, you should read this book. This is good for people who like traveling, and meeting/making new friends. Even though it’s a little strange, and it takes a little while to get into it, it’s a great book.

(Note: this story is placed when our world is destroyed, in the future).
This book is about the people of Ember finding a town not so far from their uderground city. They moved in with the people of Sparks, and many difficulties come into view. A string of events lead them into wanting a war! With Tick in the lead that might happen! So,Doon finds things that Tick did anger his people and to start a war. Meanwhile, Lina is roaming the world looking for things from "our civilazation," or before the disaster. Is there a war? What is the disaster? Find out by reading The People of Sparks!(Notice:Read it after you have read The City of Ember)!

I recommend this book because it's thrilling, exiting and easy to read. This book is great for people who have a hard time understanding things and people who like good books. This book is great if you are a slow reader because its not that long, but long enough for good readers. I know the summary sounds complicated but it's not! You just learn a few things like a roamer and "The Disaster," and then it's fun stuff like Tick doing...oh! I've already told you too much! Just read it to find out!

The room is paradise and they are going to find that key. Skye Hamilton (8th grade leader) gives them clues on who has the key. But there’s a twist 10 other groups are trying to find the same key. Will they find the key or will paradise be gone?

I recommend this to anyone one who likes a fun and exciting book. If you start reading this book you cannot put it done. This book is part of a series so you should read the first book before. I enjoyed many of these books and I hope you will too. =))

Title of Book: The Golden Compass
Author: Pullman, Philip
Reading Level: 7.1
Points: 19
Genre: fiction
The Golden Compass is about a girl named Lyra Belacqua and her daemon that go off on an adventure to the far north to find her friend, who was kidnapped by the “Gobblers”. Many kidnappings happened all around and the children are becoming part of horrible experiments and are to ever return home. She and her daemon find themselves in the middle of it all along with many others to try and save the children. A war between good and evil had begun and Lyra fights for the good along with witches and armored bears as her fate.

The Golden Compass was an excellent book. I highly recommend this book if you love action. When you are reading it, it will keep you on the edge of your seat! The book can get addicting, and almost never gets boring. When you are reading you will find yourself in a trace. The book can get confusing at some points but in the end it all makes sense. It has some sad parts and many exciting parts, even some funny part that you won’t want to end. You should really check this book out, it is an amazing book. The Golden Compass will also be coming to theaters soon.

A Child Called "It"
By: Dave Pelzer
Reading Level: 5.8
Points: 5
Non-Fiction

The book, A Child Called "It" is about a boy being abused my his drunken mom. His mom used to be nice to him until she started drinking. When she would drink, she would start to change. She felt that Dave should be a slave, rather than a child and thats how she treated him. She burned him on the stove, she made him drink bleach and she starved him. As she did all of this, Daves hero (Dad) watched without doing anything.

I could write forever on my opinons about the things his mom did. Police claimed that it was one of the worst cases of child abuse in California. I recommend this book for the way its written and the details in it.

Vanessa and her friends have special powers. Vanessa can go invisible, Catty can go back in time, Serena can read minds, and Jimena can see the future and it looks like their lives are perfect. That is until someone starts following Vanessa home. Now these girls must battle a “silent battle” and save the world from the Followers, a group of people with no hope and are mostly evil.
I recommend this book because it is fast-paced and has many twists and turns. This is for people who like a good mystery or good/evil book. This is a very good book. It’s a novel and is lower level but has a lot of points.

Kickoff to Danger

Reading Level: 4.7

Fiction

This book stars The Hardy Boys and they are looking to solve a mystery. Terry Golden, the new kid, acts great in front of adults and teachers, but he is a bad guy to his classmates. The Hardy Boys, Frank and Joe, don't like him especially when his gang steals books and bags from other kids. The gang makes it look like the bad things that happen are someone else's fault, but the Hardy Boys have to find the truth.

This book is thrilling because the author made me want to keep reading it to see what happened. Terry was nice to his teachers and mean to the other kids. So when Frank fights Terry and wins, it was cool.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries because it keeps you guessing a lot.

Everyone elses parent's said yes is an exciting book. It has a lot of unexpected twists. It's about a 10 year old name Mathew Martin, he is the youngest kid in his sixth grade class. He spends a lot of time thinking of stuff to do at his party. Little does he know that the girls in his class are plotting their revenge for all the times Mathew embarrased, or annoyed them.

I recommend this book to people that like to read about everyday kid problems. This book is mostly comedy but has a little drama thrown in there. so, if your looking for an exciting book that you can really get into, read Everyone Else's Parents said yes.

Title of Book: Hawksong
Author: Amelia Atwater Rhodes
Reading Level: 6.9
Points: 9
Genre: fiction

Hawksong is about a world of shape shifters, the serpents and the avians. They have been fighting a war longer than they can remember. They don’t even know the reason they are fighting anymore, they just continue to fight for all of those lost to the war. Danica Shardae, who takes the form of a golden hawk, and is heir to the avian thrown and will do anything to stop the war and the bloodshed. All she wants to do is create peace with the serpents. She is even willing to accept Zane Cobriana, the heir to the serpent thrown and also her kind’s enemy in the war, as her paired bond. All Zane wants is peace just like Danica, but Danica would have to convince the avians that Zane wants peace as much as she does. She would have to learn to trust Zane even after the long war that nobody knows why they are fighting or when it started. She can’t bring herself to trust Zane in fear that he can attack her whenever he wants and he can do as swiftly as the cobra he takes as his second form. In the serpent world they have to pretend to be in love to convince Zane’s people to trust the avians. As Danica and Zane learn to trust each other they have people, in both of their lands, who will do whatever it will take to destroy the peace they created.

Hawksong is an amazing book. I highly recommend this book. It is very interesting and will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat when you are reading. It is a very good book and there are some romantic parts, it does keep you reading and you will find yourself not wanting to stop reading. Some things happen unexpectedly and that is what makes it a good book to read, because it keeps you interested about what will happen next. I loved the book and again I highly recommend it. There is a second part to the book that I am currently reading. It is called Snakecharm and if you enjoy reading this one you will most definitely enjoy reading the second book.

Alice in-Between
Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
BL:4.8
Points:9.0
Fiction
Alice in- Between is about a girl named Alice. In this book she goes through the struggles of being a teenager with her two best friends Pamela Jones and Elizabeth Price. She is finally thirteen, but being thirteen isn’t all that when she encounters many hardships in her life like saving her friends when problems strike or becoming a women. During this book Alice doesn’t think she is a kid anymore and she really doesn’t feel like an adult either she just keeps getting mixed signals.

I think this would be a good book for girls who like to learn about a girl who lost her mother at the age of four and a girl that is learning how to live with just a dad and a brother. This book is also for girls that enjoy learning about how a regular teenage girl learns how to deal with normal middle school problems and on how they get through it to. I enjoyed reading this book because it told me that when you read about a teenage girl that has only a brother and a dad and has to learn how a girl deals with school and personal things from friends and far away relatives. I think any girl would enjoy reading this book but you would probably want to start from the beginning because this is the 9th book in the series the first book is called Starting with Alice. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did.

Title: Parallel Journeys
Author: Eleanor H. Ayer
Reading Level: 7.2
Points: 10
Genre: Nonfiction

This book compares the journeys of two similar people separated by their religion and how their lives shifted suddenly when the reign of Hitler began. Helen Waterford, a young German Jew, and Alfons Heck, a member of the Hitler Youth, share their stories about their hardships in the middle of all the madness of the war. It depicts what it feels like to be lost in confusion and hatred. It shows how 6 million people suffered greatly because of one man’s feelings. Then the other side, how many others switched to Hitler’s side and committed terrible hate crimes. It shows those two views in the eyes of young people and what they learned about prejudice.

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested what it feels like to be really bullied. What it feels like to see war and death at such a young age. If you are interested in what it was like to have witnessed a tragic event like World War 2 this is the book for you. If you want to be moved this is the book for you.
